The Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe proclaims that

In so doing, this holy place of pilgrimage seeks to reflect the words of Mary, Mother of Jesus, who expressed her obedience to the will of the Father in the first chapter of Luke: "My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord."

In union with the Mother of God, and under her patronage as Queen of the Universe, the friends and family of Mary's Shrine work to manifest Christ Jesus to the multitudes.

A majestically-lit, 2,000-seat main church and Blessed Sacrament Chapel welcome the people of all nations, inspire reverence and help respond to the new liturgy – revealing Mary's place in God's plan, honoring her many graces and prayerfully acknowledging her heavenly intercession on our behalf.

Beyond the Church's magnificently-crafted bronze doors and out across the grounds are found the Shrine's triangular, Mother & Child Outdoor Chapel, a Pilgrimage Center, Museum of Christian Art, even tranquil pathways formed into a uniquely-landscaped Rosary Garden. It is a worship environment that evokes the very spirit of evangelization, celebrating Christian life, and encouraging visitors to experience the fullest communion with Our Lord and His holy mother.
