Seventh Station: Jesus falls a second time

Home / Seventh Station: Jesus falls a second time

Station Description: Jesus is crushed by the cross as He falls again. A Roman soldier motions to the viewer to look upon the fallen Christ, as Jesus looks and reaches out to the viewer.

This is the only Station where Jesus looks at the viewer.

On the left, a little girl breaks away from the angry crowd and desperately tries to lift the cross off Jesus.

Above her, a woman with a millstone tied around her neck prevents another child from coming to Jesus (Matthew 18:6; Mark 9:42; Luke 17:2).

Above Jesus, to the right, a Pharisee wearing garments emblazoned with skulls and bones eats a cookie in the shape of a widow’s house, while a snake slithers into his clothing. (Matthew 23:27; Mark 12:40, Luke 20:47).

Behind him, a Roman soldier carries the parchment with INRI written on it. The soldier sticks his tongue out at Jesus and uses the bridle in his horse’s mouth to turn its head (James 3:3, 6-10).

To the left, a demon whispers to a Roman soldier blocking the crowd from approaching.
